Identify a loose pill

3 min read·Updated May 15, 2026

The Pill Identifier reads the imprint, color, and shape of a pill and cross-references drug databases to identify it. Imprint codes are the most reliable signal.

Photograph both sides

Imprint codes are often split across the front and back of a pill. Photograph both faces on a flat, well-lit white surface so the markings are in focus.

PillArm reports a confidence level and may list other possibilities. Low confidence means you should not rely on the result.

Frequently asked

Can I trust the identification?
Treat it as a starting point, not a confirmation. Always verify a pill's identity with your pharmacist before taking it. Never take a medication identified only by an app.
